The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kano State has expressed delight at the recent joining of the party by former Governor of Kaduna State,Malam Nasiru El-Rufa’i, and retired Major Hamza Al-Mustapha.
The Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ali Shettima, made the remark at a press conference in Kano on Friday
“We are excited to welcome former Kaduna of State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and retired Major Hamza Al-Mustapha into our great party, the SDP.
“We regard their entry as a significant boost to our party’s membership as we are making efforts to strengthen its structure and preparing for future elections,” Shettima said.
He said the party remained strong and united, despite the recent defection of its governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections,Bala Gwagwarwa, to the APC.
He dismissed claims by Gwagwarwa that he joined the APC alongside the entire structure of the party, describing the suggestion as “absolutely untrue.”
“We want to tell the world that the party remains intact in the state. Only the governorship candidate left, and he left alone,” the chairman said.
He also rejected speculations that local government and ward chairmen of the party had defected to the APC, emphasizing that the party’s officials across all levels remain loyal.
“As you have seen, our party executives, including the Director-General of Gwagwarwa’s campaign, are still with us. The claims that they all left with him are false. He left alone,” he added.
