The 7th Kano Social Influencers Summit (KANSIS 2026) will examine how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation can improve governance, strengthen accountability and promote citizen participation in Nigeria.
Organised by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), the two-day summit will be held on October 21 and 22, 2026, at Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano.
The summit is themed “Future of Governance: AI, Innovation, and Citizen Engagement.”
Hamza Ibrahim, Chair of the Summit’s Media and Publicity Committee, disclosed during a press briefing today at CITAD’s Kano Office that the event had received 1,250 applications, with 40 speakers expected to lead panel and plenary sessions.
According to Hamza, the summit will explore how AI can support transparent governance, improve public services and promote evidence-based decision-making.
“However, discussions will also address concerns about data privacy, algorithmic bias, misinformation, digital exclusion and the protection of citizens’ rights” He added.
Hamza further explained that the summit would give young people, social media influencers, and other stakeholders opportunities to contribute to discussions on technology policies and governance.
“Participants are expected to include policymakers, academics, researchers, technology experts, civil society organisations, development partners and private sector representatives”
“The programme will feature panel discussions, presentations, exhibitions, technology demonstrations and networking sessions aimed at encouraging collaboration among stakeholders” He hinted.
Hamza, however, said the summit was expected to generate practical recommendations for the responsible use of AI, strengthen public understanding of digital governance and produce a communiqué outlining action points for relevant institutions.
PRIME TIME NEWS gathered that, established in 2019, KANSIS has become an annual platform for discussions on digital technology, social media, governance, social justice, development and citizen participation.
