Katsina State Launches “Building Community Power to End Harmful Practices” Project with UNICEF Support

Katsina State has officially launched the “Building Community Power to End Harmful Practices” project, a significant initiative aimed at addressing child marriage, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and other harmful practices affecting women and girls. The project, supported by UNICEF Nigeria, seeks to empower communities in tackling these issues through advocacy, education, and policy engagement.

The launch event brought together key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, representatives from government ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as security agencies. Their collective commitment and pledged support underscore the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in achieving the project’s objectives.

This initiative reflects a shared determination to mitigate the impact of harmful practices and create a safer environment for young women and girls. By fostering community ownership and engagement, the project aims to amplify voices, enhance agency, and pave the way for a future where every girl in Nigeria can thrive, lead, and live a fulfilled life.
