Kebbi Governor’s giant strides excites NUJ National President

The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),Alhassan Yahaya, has commended Kebbi State Governor, Dr.Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu for massively transforming the state in a jiffy.

The President addressed newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital shortly after concluding a guided tour of a myriad developmental projects in the state.

The National President, along with the members of NUJ CWC were in Birnin Kebbi for a meeting.

As a prelude to the meeting, they were taken to various project sites completed by the Governor.

They were taken to the ultra-modern Secretariat Complex at Gwadangwaji, new modern motorpark and finally shown some flourishing rice farms in Birnin Kebbi.

The tour was guided by the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi and the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity,Yahaya Sarki , Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris as well as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of works, Alhaji Saad Musa Sakaba.

Yahaya said, ” We came, we saw and we believed what we saw.”

He, therefore, commended Dr. Nasir Idris for coming up with the colossal developmental projects across the state in less than two years of his administration.

According to Yahaya,the Governor has succeeded in redeeming his campaign promises to the cross section of the people of the state.

He said, “I am so impressed with what I saw especially at the State Secretariat, fuel dump and the ultramodern motor park.”

The NUJ National President further acknowledged the tangible changes in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

Yahaya said, “The state capital has glaringly changed compared to what I had seen when i visited here some few years ago.

“I am happy to be here and I am lauding the Governor for his uncommon hospitality to us.

“I am also too elated that Dr. Nasir Idris as a veteran labour leader has not failed the labour movements and the people of the state.”

Yahaya also to float a plausible collaboration with the State Council of the union in Kebbi State and other states to sanitize the journalism profession.

He, therefore, promised to come up with Innovative strategies and programmes to ramp up the security and welfare of journalists across the country.

Meanwhile, Yahaya mulled the idea of sponsoring a ‘Media Enhancement Bill’, to the National Assembly, with a view to improving the renumeration of the union’s members across the nation.

The Information Commissioner said that the Secretariat project, abandoned since 2012, was being completed by Dr. Idris at the cost of about N10 billion.

He stated that it was to streamline the activities of the state government as all the MDAs would be centralized including the Office of the Governor.

The Commissioner added that it boasts of several structures and facilities, including a 1000-seater ultra-modern Conference Hall, among others.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works, Alhaji Saad Musa Sakaba said that the project could not be completed by the previous administrations in the state but the incumbent administration of Dr.Nasir Idris finally completed the project.
