KEDCO Refutes Challawa Manufacturers’ Claims on Poor Power Supply, High Tariff Rates
…Says Industrial Feeders Enjoy Daily Average Supply of 23:45 Hours
Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has strongly refuted recent claims made by manufacturers in the Challawa Industrial Area of Kano, describing the allegations of poor electricity supply and high tariffs as false and misleading.
In a press statement issued on behalf of the company, Head of Corporate Communication, Sani Bala Sani, expressed disappointment over remarks made by Secretary of the Challawa Industrial Manufacturers Association, Aliyu Mahadi, during an interview on Channels Television.
According to Him, the remarks were made while a delegation from the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) visited the industrial cluster.
According to Sani, KEDCO’s daily dispatch records show that the feeders serving the Challawa Industrial Area—specifically the 33kV Coca Cola, 11kV Ceramic, and 11kV NBC feeders, all classified under Band A—have consistently delivered an average daily power supply of 23 hours and 45 minutes over the past month and beyond.
He further clarified that contrary to Mahadi’s assertion that manufacturers receive Band C services despite being listed under Band A, such claims are inaccurate. “The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) rigorously monitors our service levels. If such discrepancies existed, the affected feeders would have been downgraded under the terms of our service contract agreements,” he stated.
Highlighting KEDCO’s commitment to industrial growth, Sani emphasized that the company continues to prioritise power supply to key economic clusters such as Challawa, aligning with its broader vision of supporting industrialisation and economic empowerment in the region.
He added that over the past year, KEDCO has implemented measures aimed at cushioning the impact of rising energy costs on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), providing reliable electricity at rates significantly below market value. This, according to him, is part of a deliberate effort to promote innovation, support job creation, and improve the local economy.
Sani, however, said KEDCO has urged its customers to verify information before making public statements that could harm the company’s reputation. The company reaffirmed its dedication to improving service delivery through continued investment in network expansion and upgrades aimed at enhancing reliability and reducing losses.
