KNSG Seals 2 Warehouses For Violating Environmental Regulations

Kano State Map

The Kano State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, has sealed two warehouses located along Airport Road by France Road in the Sabon Gari area for violating environmental regulations.

Ismail Garba Gwammaja, the Director, Public Enlightenment of the Ministry disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen.

According to Gwamaja, the warehouses, used for storing insecticides and fumigation chemicals, were emitting offensive odors that disturbed the surrounding community and passersby.

According to Malam Ibrahim Nasir, Director of Pollution Control at the Ministry, the action followed a formal complaint from residents. Environmental officers were dispatched to inspect the premises, and upon confirming the violations, the shop owners were served abatement notices instructing them to cease operations and relocate. Their failure to comply led the Ministry to seal the premises and refer the matter to court.

Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M Hashim, emphasized that the operation was part of the state government’s broader efforts to enforce environmental laws and protect public health.

“Storing hazardous materials in a residential or commercial area is a serious health and environmental violation,” Dr. Hashim stated. “We will not tolerate any activities that endanger the well-being of our citizens.”

The Ministry urges residents to report any environmental violations to the appropriate authorities. It remains committed to safeguarding public health, preventing pollution, and promoting a cleaner, greener Kano State.
