The Kogi State Police Command has successfully rescued all four victims abducted during the attack on Government Secondary School, Olowa Agbajo, Dekina Local Government Area, on 14th July, 2026.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, alongside the Commander, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lokoja, Brigadier General Kasim Sidi, and the State Security Adviser to the Governor, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), coordinated a joint security operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, local vigilantes, hunters, and other critical stakeholders.
Sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated bush-combing efforts mounted pressure on the kidnappers, resulting in the successful rescue of Elder Daniel Iyanda, Mr. Solomon Peter, Miss Dorcas Sunday, and Miss Dorcas Samuel at about 7:45 p.m. on 16th July, 2026.
A statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Salisu Oyiza Afusat assure the public that the perpetrators have been identified and that efforts to apprehend them have reached an advanced stage. With the victims now safely rescued, security operatives are closing in on the suspects, who will be arrested and brought to justice.
He explained that investigation into the unauthorized use of the abandoned Government Secondary School as a purported NECO examination centre is ongoing, and anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
The statement however, expressed appreciation to Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Executive Governor of Kogi State,Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, and all security agencies as well as local stakeholders whose collaboration made the successful rescue possible.
He said that the Kogi State Police Command will remains committed to protecting lives and property and urges members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information.
