Kwankwaso Congratulates Tijjaniyya Sufi Order, Criticizes Police Alert Over Maulud Event

Former Kano State Governor and Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has congratulated the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order on the successful completion of the annual Maulud celebration of Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass. The event, which held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, brought together thousands of devotees from across Nigeria and beyond.

In a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Kwankwaso extended his felicitations to key stakeholders, including His Royal Highness Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, for organizing the monumental gathering.

However, Kwankwaso expressed concern over a “terror alert” issued by the Kano State Police Command on the eve of the event. He criticized the alert, describing it as irresponsible and capable of jeopardizing the success of the event and instilling fear among residents and international participants.

“This conduct by the police not only risked the lives of people in Kano but also tarnished the global image of the Nigeria Police Force, especially given the international significance of the Maulud,” he stated.

Kwankwaso warned that such false alarms could create complacency in the face of genuine threats in the future. He also accused the police of partisanship and alleged that their actions align with a pattern of interference by the Federal Government in Kano State’s affairs.

He called on the police to maintain professionalism and impartiality, urging the Federal Government to respect the autonomy of Kano State and its people.

The Maulud celebration is an annual event commemorating the life and teachings of Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass, a revered leader of the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order. It attracts thousands of attendees from across West Africa and beyond, emphasizing the spiritual and cultural significance of the gathering.
