The Adamawa State Government has further relaxed the curfew imposed on Lamurde Local Government Area following communal clashes that claimed lives and destroyed property.
Under the revised arrangement, movement is now unrestricted during the day, while the curfew will be observed daily from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Humwashi Wonosikou, announced the adjustment in a statement, explaining that the decision followed reports of sustained calm and improved security in the area after the recent crisis.
According to the statement, the governor attributed the further relaxation of the restriction to the cooperation of residents and the professionalism of security agencies deployed to maintain law and order.
Fintiri, however, warned that the government would not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the peace achieved so far. He said security operatives had been directed to remain vigilant and ensure strict compliance with the revised curfew.
While reiterating his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, the governor called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups and women’s organisations to sustain efforts towards peaceful coexistence.
He urged the various groups to embrace dialogue as a means of resolving differences and preventing further communal disturbances.
The governor also stressed the importance of collective responsibility in preserving peace, noting that Adamawa State was known for its tradition of tolerance and unity.
He called on all stakeholders to work together to sustain the prevailing calm and protect the state’s reputation for peaceful coexistence.
