From Umar Dankano, Yola
The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has officially announced the results of the local government council elections conducted across the 21 local government areas, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winning all chairmanship and councillorship seats in the state.
The Chairman of the Commission, Mohammed Umar Madagali, while announcing the results in Yola on Monday, declared that PDP candidates emerged victorious in the chairmanship elections across all 21 local government councils in the state.
Madagali also announced that PDP candidates won all ward councillorship seats in the 226 wards across Adamawa State.
He explained that the results were collated from electoral officers at the various wards across the state, while his role was to formally announce the party that emerged victorious in the exercise.
The chairman expressed appreciation to residents for their peaceful conduct and orderliness during the election, describing the exercise as a contest of numbers where winners and losers naturally emerge.
Meanwhile, during the presentation of pending results from Numan Local Government Area at the state collation centre, the returning officer, Sani Ahmad, reported that although the PDP candidate was declared winner, there were minor skirmishes in some wards where electoral materials were allegedly destroyed in protest.
Our correspondent reports that at the beginning of the exercise, 11 political parties indicated interest to participate, but only four—ADC, APC, SDP and PDP—eventually took part in the election.
