The Founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN), Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, on Friday, 28 August 2026, led a high-powered delegation on a special visit to Northwest University Kano (NWUK), where he presented a brand-new Hyundai SUV to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, as a personal donation in recognition of her exceptional commitment, dedication and contributions to the development of education, particularly during her time at MAAUN.

The vehicle, which was personally presented to Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, is specifically meant for her personal use and is not an official University vehicle.
The special visit further demonstrated the strong and enduring relationship between MAAUN and Northwest University Kano, as well as Professor Gwarzo’s continued commitment to supporting education and recognising individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the sector.
Speaking during the presentation, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo described Professor Amina Salihi Bayero as a “Practical Professor”, stressing that she is a scholar who does not merely teach or discuss ideas but puts her knowledge, experience and intellectual capacity into practical action.
According to him, Professor Amina made remarkable contributions during her time at MAAUN and played a significant role in transforming the institution.
“Professor Amina is a Practical Professor. She is practising her profession in a practical way. During her stay at MAAUN, she changed the narrative of the University and brought a lot of positive changes. That is why I call her a Practical Professor,” Professor Gwarzo stated.
He further noted that her intellectual capacity, hard work and commitment had contributed significantly to the progress recorded at MAAUN, adding that he was confident that the same qualities were already producing visible results at Northwest University Kano since her assumption of office as Vice Chancellor.
Professor Gwarzo explained that the donation of the Hyundai SUV was a token of appreciation for the Vice Chancellor’s commitment and dedication to the advancement of MAAUN, Northwest University Kano and education in general, particularly in recognition of the positive contributions she made to MAAUN during her stay at the institution.
He emphasised that the relationship between MAAUN and Northwest University Kano remained a special one and expressed his continued readiness to support initiatives that would promote academic excellence, human capital development and educational advancement.
In another significant commitment during the visit, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo pledged to establish a Development Centre for Northwest University Kano, which will serve as a strategic platform through which the University can identify, source and access grants and other development opportunities to support the growth and advancement of the institution.
According to Professor Gwarzo, the proposed Development Centre would help Northwest University Kano to explore opportunities for grants and funding from relevant organisations and development partners for the implementation of various projects and initiatives across the University.
He noted that the Centre could play a vital role in mobilising resources for the development of infrastructure, academic programmes, research, innovation, human capital development and other areas requiring additional support.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor of Northwest University Kano, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, expressed profound appreciation and immense happiness over the gesture, describing the visit and the donation as deeply touching and memorable.
The Vice Chancellor described Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo as an “Uncommon Philanthropist” whose commitment to the development of education and entrepreneurship has continued to impact institutions and individuals positively.
She commended him for his consistent support to Northwest University Kano, noting that his contributions to the University had been enormous and could not be overlooked.

Professor Gwarzo’s latest gesture marks the third vehicle donation made to Northwest University Kano, underscoring his remarkable support for the institution.
The first was a luxurious bus, which was donated to the University to support its transportation needs. More recently, he donated a brand-new Toyota Hilux to the Office of the Vice Chancellor. The latest donation is a brand-new Hyundai SUV personally presented to Professor Amina Salihi Bayero.
The successive gestures have further demonstrated Professor Gwarzo’s strong commitment to the growth and development of Northwest University Kano and his appreciation of the leadership and academic community of the institution.
In another significant development during the visit, the Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Northwest University Kano, Professor Abdulmumin Yunusa, made a pledge on behalf of the University concerning the institution’s growing support for medical education.
Professor Abdulmumin disclosed that the Department of Anatomy of Northwest University Kano had secured a brand-new Anatomage Table, a modern digital anatomy technology that will enhance the teaching and learning of human anatomy.
He pledged that the facility would also be made available for the training of medical students from MAAUN, particularly in the study of anatomy and virtual cadaver-based learning.
The Anatomage Table is expected to provide students with an advanced and interactive platform for studying human anatomy, complementing conventional methods of anatomical education.
The Principal Officers of Northwest University Kano who were present at the occasion expressed their appreciation for Professor Gwarzo’s generous gesture and congratulated Professor Amina Salihi Bayero on the recognition.
