A student of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Abdulkadir Basri, is set to attempt a 120-hour continuous sewing marathon in a bid to make history and secure a Guinness World Record.
Basri, a student designer, is expected to begin the sewing marathon on October 5, 2026, at the Ibrahim Usman Yakasai Sports Complex, MAAUN, Kano.
The attempt will require him to operate a sewing machine continuously for 120 hours, equivalent to five days and nights, in a test of endurance, technical skill and craftsmanship.
The initiative is expected to draw attention to youth creativity and innovation, while showcasing the resilience and technical abilities of Nigerian young people.
Organisers have called on the university community, student bodies and supporters to mobilise around the initiative by providing logistical and moral support throughout the marathon.
The 120-hour target is intended to place Basri’s effort on the global record-breaking stage as Kano hosts the endurance sewing challenge.
