MACBAN Rejects Animal Husbandry Bill, Cites Restriction of Herders’ Rights
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has rejected the Animal Husbandry Bill, citing concerns that it will infringe on the rights of herders and hinder the livestock industry.
According to Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu, Director General/Secretary of MACBAN’s Kano State Chapter, the bill fails to address the needs of the Fulani community and may lead to conflict and dissatisfaction among herders.
Instead, MACBAN is appealing to the government to establish a Ministry of Animal Husbandry, which they believe is essential for addressing the challenges faced by herders and developing plans to improve the livestock industry without restricting herders’ rights.
