NAHCON Reaffirms Commitment to Due Process, Refutes Misrepresentation in Media Reports

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has reaffirmed its status as a public institution guided by due process and civil service regulations, while strongly condemning what it describes as misleading narratives circulating in the media regarding its leadership and administrative decisions.

In a statement signed by Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director of Information and Publications, the Commission addressed recent reports suggesting internal disputes and allegations of nepotism. NAHCON clarified that while it acknowledges the role of staff unions in advocating for employee welfare, claims that its Staff Union had petitioned against the leadership were incorrect. Instead, the union had merely issued an internal reminder to management regarding staff elevation and welfare matters, which are currently being addressed.

The Commission also dismissed allegations of favoritism, particularly reports that Professor Abdullahi Saleh had appointed his son as a Personal Assistant within NAHCON. “This claim is completely false,” the statement asserted. Additionally, it refuted suggestions that retirees were still on NAHCON’s official staff list, describing such claims as either deliberate misinformation or a misunderstanding of the institution’s structure.

NAHCON urged journalists and commentators to ensure accuracy and avoid sensationalism when discussing the Commission’s operations. It emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that its priority remains ensuring a seamless Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.

The Commission reaffirmed its openness to addressing legitimate concerns through appropriate channels and welcomed constructive engagement that contributes positively to its mandate.
