From Umar Dankano, Yola
Former Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Abdulrazak Namdas, has formally declared his intention to contest for the governorship position in the 2027 elections in Adamawa State.
Namdas made his governorship ambition public when his campaign train visited the All Progressives Congress (APC) party secretariat in Yola on Wednesday, stressing that the decision to join the governorship race was informed by wide consultations across the state and beyond.
Namdas told the state party leadership that, as a former federal legislator and promising politician, he believes that if the electorate gives him the mandate come 2027, it would be an opportunity to serve by consolidating the laudable achievements recorded by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration.
He acknowledged the stance of the party to provide a level playing ground for all interested aspirants, adding that during his consultations with his people and supporters, over 80 per cent expressed full support for his ambition to govern Adamawa State.
“Over 80 per cent of individuals and groups consulted, including women, youths, students, and other stakeholders, endorsed my ambition, giving me the confidence to join the race.
“I have travelled widely across Adamawa, Abuja, and other major cities, consulting with critical stakeholders. In the end, more than 80 per cent of them gave me the go-ahead to contest,” he said.
He, however, pledged to prioritise human capital development, security, education, infrastructure, healthcare, water supply, and rural development, while also empowering women and youths if elected.
On security, Namdas identified farmers-herders clashes as a major concern in the state, assuring that he would pursue sustainable solutions to restore peace and boost agricultural productivity.
He reiterated that his ambition is not a “do-or-die affair,” urging all aspirants to embrace a peaceful and democratic process.
He also commended the conduct of the recent party congresses in the state, describing them as free, fair, and inclusive.
Earlier in his response, the new Chairman of the APC in the state, Hamza Madagali, expressed gratitude over Namdas’ declaration, assuring that all aspirants would be given fair and just treatment as a ruling party.
Madagali told Namdas and his team that the party is committed to conducting credible and transparent primaries that would be acceptable to all contestants, affirming that under his watch, nobody would be accorded undue advantage over others.
“We will provide an enabling environment for everyone. No aspirant will be favoured. The process that produced the current leadership will be replicated during the primaries to ensure fairness and inclusiveness,” Madagali stated.
The chairman also applauded President Bola Tinubu for providing a conducive atmosphere for democracy to thrive, expressing optimism that it would strengthen unity within the party.
