The Coordinator, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone A, Sadi Garba Said, has expressed deep disappointment and concern over the Federal Government’s decision to suspend the Kano-Abuja road construction project.
In a press release, he described the suspension as a severe setback for the region, highlighting the negative impact on local communities and the economy.
The project, launched on February 10, 2021, was expected to be completed by December 2023. However, its abrupt halt has disrupted the vital transportation link between Kano and the federal capital, leaving road users to face increased travel times, higher costs, and other hardships.
Sadi emphasized the challenges faced by students who depend on the road for commuting to their institutions, calling the situation untenable.
He demanded that the Federal Government provide a detailed explanation for terminating the contract with Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and present a clear roadmap for completing the project, including a revised timeline, budget, and the new contractors involved.
“We, the people of Zone A, will not tolerate further delays or excuses. Transparency and the efficient use of public funds are non-negotiable,” he stated, urging the government to prioritize the project’s revival and ensure its completion within a reasonable timeframe.
Sadi reaffirmed Zone A’s commitment to holding the government accountable and pledged to monitor developments closely, advocating for the rights and well-being of the people affected by the suspension.
