The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), has distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to 1,000 vulnerable households across three communities in Adamawa State.
Speaking during the distribution of the food items at the Federal Government’s Central Store in Yola over the weekend, the Head of Operations, NEMA, Adamawa and Taraba Operations Office, Mr. Ladan Ayuba, said the intervention was aimed at supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs), vulnerable households, and persons with special needs in the state.
Ayuba explained that the Federal Government, in its commitment to easing the hardship faced by vulnerable Nigerians, released the relief materials to cushion the effects of the prevailing economic challenges confronting many households.
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the food items, noting that both the Federal and Adamawa State governments remain committed to delivering the dividends of good governance through interventions that directly impact the lives of citizens.
According to him, the beneficiaries were drawn from Hulere, Sangere Bode, and Ngurore communities, as well as internally displaced persons from the four officially closed IDP camps who have since been resettled in various communities across the state.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of the National Association of People with Physical Disabilities (NAPWPD), Adamawa State Chapter, Comrade Abdullahi Toungo, commended the intervention, describing it as timely given the current economic realities in the country.
Toungo said the assistance would go a long way in alleviating the economic hardship faced by vulnerable residents in the benefiting communities. He also appealed to the government to extend similar support to other communities yet to benefit from the programme.
“We are very happy with this gesture from the government. I appeal for more interventions so that other communities can benefit as well,” Toungo said.
Also speaking, Mrs. Azumi Bala from Hulere community and Umar Datti Mohammed expressed appreciation to NEMA and ADSEMA for the intervention, noting that the gesture demonstrated the government’s concern for the welfare of its citizens.
Mrs. Bala, a mother of eight, said the timely support would significantly reduce the burden on her household. Similarly, Mohammed, a resident of Ngurore community, offered prayers for those behind the intervention, saying the assistance could not have come at a better time.
The relief items distributed included 25kg bags of parboiled rice, 25kg bags of beans, 4-litre gallons of groundnut oil, packages of seasoning cubes, and packages of processed tomato paste. Each beneficiary received one unit of each of the listed items.
Our correspondent reports that the distribution exercise was conducted peacefully and orderly under the watchful supervision of security personnel deployed to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
