The Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN), a non-governmental organization, has applauded Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, for approving the release of N250 million as a matching fund for the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF).

The approval was granted during the recent executive council meeting at the Government House, Dutse.

The commendation was conveyed in a statement by the CS-SUNN Jigawa State Coordinator, Comrade Shu’aibu Musa Kafin-Gana, and shared with journalists in Dutse.

According to the statement, this significant milestone reflects Governor Namadi’s commitment to improving the lives of children in the state. It also highlights the relentless advocacy efforts of CS-SUNN members, media campaigns, and engagement with relevant stakeholders.

“The Council has ratified the Executive approval granted by His Excellency, the Governor of Jigawa State, for the release of N250 million as a matching fund for the purchase of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in partnership with UNICEF. This is part of the Namadi administration’s efforts to combat child malnutrition in Jigawa State, as presented by the Ministry of Health,” the statement read.

In addition to commending the governor, CS-SUNN advocated for the extension of maternity leave from three months to six months to enable lactating mothers to provide adequate breastfeeding for their infants.

CS-SUNN is a coalition of civil society organizations, media professionals, and academics working to improve nutrition and reduce the stunting rate among children in Jigawa State.
