NGO Trains Journalists on Eye Healthcare in Kano
A Non-governmental organization popularly known as Sightsavers Nigeria has organized a training workshop for Journalists drawn from seven states in the Northwest on the importance of advocacy on eye health among the populace.
The two-day training Workshop which held on Wednesday in Kano targeted at creating awareness on regular eyes check among the general public.
The Country Director, Sightsavers Nigeria, Dr Sunday Isyaku in a speech at the ceremony explained that, the objectives of the training was to acquaint the working journalist in the region, on the importance of advocacy for governments on sustainable services in the eyes health.
He said Eye Health was very paramount in human existence, hence all the needed support and advocacy should be channel through Journalists who would mobilize the general public on how to take good care of their eyes.
“we have been in Nigeria for over seventy years , but what we have realized is that, we have been missing a very key partners in the work we do , that is the reason why we bring the media together to help us in the advocacy”
Dr Isyaku, noted that “media personnel will play a vital role in creating awareness for regular eyes checking by showing love and care to the people living with disabilities for them to have sense of belonging in the society”
“we live in a society were people living with disability are completely stigmatized and we think lack of awareness was the reason behind that , so we need the media to help us in awareness creation for the benefit of all.
