NHMST Warns Against Disrupting 2025 Hajj Operations
By Muhammad Kabir, Kano
The Nigerian Hajj Media Support Team (NHMST) has cautioned State Pilgrims Welfare Boards and private tour operators against actions that could jeopardize the smooth execution of the 2025 Hajj.
The NHMST, a watchdog group dedicated to monitoring and reporting on Hajj operations in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, has also vowed to expose any individuals or officials attempting to sabotage preparations for this year’s pilgrimage.
In a statement issued Tuesday by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim Abubakar Nagarta, in Kaduna, the NHMST expressed concern over attempts by some state officials and private operators to obstruct the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria’s (NAHCON) efforts to ensure a seamless pilgrimage.
The group, composed of media professionals advocating for fair treatment of Nigerian pilgrims, pledged to resist any form of sabotage against NAHCON under the leadership of Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman.
NHMST also addressed recent controversies surrounding an alleged contract cancellation by NAHCON, as well as concerns over Hajj fares and exchange rates, describing them as deliberate attempts by self-serving individuals to undermine the commission.
It warned those seeking to disrupt the 2025 Hajj process to reconsider, as they would face serious repercussions.
Part of the NHMST’s statement reads:
“NHMST is committed to monitoring and reporting on all aspects of Hajj to ensure Nigerian pilgrims receive fair treatment.”
“We are aware of recent claims regarding a supposed contract cancellation by NAHCON with a Saudi-based service provider. While those behind the controversy sought to stir unrest, their efforts have failed because NAHCON was not responsible for the contract’s termination.”
“It is questionable why some state boards are amplifying this issue if they have nothing to hide. How does the cancellation of a service contract in Saudi Arabia prevent Nigerian pilgrims from performing Hajj?”
“Those behind this agenda know that NAHCON has the authority to review and adjust contracts in the best interest of pilgrims. NHMST will not stand by and allow any individual or group to create unnecessary obstacles or cause national embarrassment.”
“Saboteurs should rethink their tactics because there is a new sheriff in town. Under Professor Usman’s leadership, NAHCON is committed to transparency and accountability. NHMST will ensure that no external forces derail the 2025 Hajj operations—business as usual is no longer an option.”
