North Will Announce Position on 2027 Presidency in Six Months — Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to Vice-President Kashim Shettima, has said the North will unveil its stance on the 2027 presidential election within the next six months.

In a video currently circulating online, Baba-Ahmed warned that the region may take a decisive position on its political future if perceived grievances and marginalisation continue unchecked.

“The North will stand to defend itself, I swear to God,” he said. “We must be cautious, avoid divisive elements, and reject traitorous politicians working against the region’s unity.”

Reflecting on the security challenges during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaigns — including attacks on both churches and mosques — Baba-Ahmed emphasized the need for unity across all northern communities, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

“We must unite — Muslims, Christians, Fulani, Baju, Mangu — everyone. No politician can just show up and say, ‘Northerners, follow me.’ Who are you?” he asked rhetorically.

He noted that the region has become more politically aware following Buhari’s eight-year tenure and the current administration’s struggles. According to him, the North now seeks leadership that truly understands and represents its interests.

“By God’s grace, in the next six months, the North will declare its political direction,” he said. “It will be up to the rest of the country whether to align with us or not. We know that no one can become president without the support of the North.”

Baba-Ahmed also issued a stark warning regarding the 2027 elections, cautioning that any attempt to manipulate the process could have severe consequences.

“Conducting a bad election in 2027 may lead to the end of Nigeria, I swear to God,” he declared.

He concluded by saying that northern elders and stakeholders were preparing to take a firm position, warning that the time to act is approaching fast.

“There will come a time when we say, ‘enough is enough.’ That time is near. We know who we are,” he said.
