Family members, political associates and well-wishers on Friday gathered at Alfurqan Juma’at Mosque in Kano for the wedding fatiha of Dr. Abdulrahman Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya, son of Hon. Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya, an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and former member of the House of Representatives.
The groom was joined in marriage with Labiba Ahmad Muhammad, daughter of Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad, mni, a former Assistant Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, in a ceremony conducted in accordance with Islamic rites.
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, served as the groom’s wali at the wedding, while a dowry of ₦500,000 was presented on the groom’s behalf.
Following the solemnisation, the Chief Imam of Alfurqan Juma’at Mosque, Dr. Bashir Umar, offered prayers for Allah’s blessings upon the couple, asking for a marriage filled with peace, love, prosperity and righteous offspring.
Speaking after the ceremony, Ganduje advised the couple to build their home on patience, mutual understanding and mutual respect. He said while both spouses should exercise patience, the husband should demonstrate greater forbearance, while the wife should remain respectful and supportive to foster a peaceful and successful marriage.
An uncle of the groom, Alhaji Kabir Mahmud Ismail, Danmakwayon Gaya, described the wedding as a memorable occasion for the family and expressed appreciation to guests who attended the ceremony.
Also speaking, Nura Mahmud Ismail congratulated the couple and urged them to continue loving, respecting and supporting one another while avoiding undue interference from third parties in resolving marital issues.
Other family members, including Alhaji Sabo Umar and Alhaji Surajo Mahmud Barde, offered prayers for Allah to bless the union with love, mercy, patience, understanding, peace and prosperity.
In his remarks, Hon. Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya prayed for Allah’s blessings upon them and advised the newlyweds to uphold the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), remain patient with one another and live in the fear of Allah (SWT). Thanked guests who travelled from different parts of the country to celebrate with his family.
Among the dignitaries at the event were the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Murtala Sule Garo, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the wedding fatiha; Former Kano State Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the Secretary to the State Government; and the Chief of Staff, alongside members of the State Executive Council, including commissioners.
Other ; representatives of the Emir of Gaya; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and former Senator representing Gombe North Bayaro Nafada,, Hon. Maki Elleman; Alhaji Mohammed Sani-Sidi; Hon. Hafizu Kawu Tarauni; serving and former heads of government agencies; technocrats; serving and former members of the National and State Assemblies; political associates; advisers; local government chairman and other prominent personalities.
A reception later held at Meenat Event Centre and the lawmaker’s residence rounded off the celebration, with guests from across the country in attendance.
