The One Kano Agenda has commended the establishment of the Forum of Retired Security Personnel and Senior Civil Servants in Kano State, describing the initiative as a timely intervention aimed at strengthening security and promoting peace across the state.
In a statement jointly signed by the Director General of the group, Amb. Abbas Yakasai, and the Secretary General, Barr. Mukhtar Musa, the organization said the formation of the forum would complement the efforts of existing security agencies in safeguarding lives and property.
The group noted that the initiative comes at a period when collective action, intelligence sharing, and community-based security solutions are increasingly needed to address emerging security challenges.
According to the statement, the forum comprises retired military officers, police personnel, DSS operatives, paramilitary officers, and experienced senior civil servants whose expertise and institutional knowledge would serve as an added advantage to Kano’s security architecture.
“One Kano Agenda believes that the coming together of these distinguished elders and patriots will greatly support ongoing efforts to maintain peace, stability, and social harmony in Kano State,” the statement said.
The organization further described Kano as the commercial and cultural hub of Northern Nigeria, stressing that sustaining peace in the state remains critical to the economic and social stability of the region.
While applauding the initiative, the group urged the newly established forum to prioritize community engagement and grassroots sensitization in order to build public trust and encourage citizen participation in security matters.
It also recommended close collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, and community associations to develop sustainable local security solutions.
The statement further advised the forum to maintain a professional and non-partisan operational structure focused on the collective interest of Kano State and its people.
One Kano Agenda also called for periodic security dialogues and stakeholder consultations to address emerging threats and provide practical policy recommendations to relevant authorities.
The group emphasized the need for the forum to focus on youth empowerment, mentorship, and deradicalization programmes aimed at tackling the root causes of insecurity.
It added that all collaborations with security agencies should remain within the framework of the law, respect for human rights, and the protection of civil liberties.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and development, One Kano Agenda called on residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to support the initiative in the collective interest of stability and prosperity in Kano State.
“Kano belongs to all of us, and securing it is a shared responsibility,” the statement added.
