The Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State has handed over Small Arms and light weapons recovered by its troops to the National Center for the control of Small Arms and light weapons.
Speaking during the event at it’s Headquarters in Jos, the STF Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar said the weapons were recovered by troops of the Operation Safe Haven.
The Federal Government, in it’s determination to stop the senseless killing and Insecurity occasioned by the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in circulation within communities, came up with a strategy of mopping up all weapons.
It was in this regard that the Federal Government approved the establishment of the National Center for Small Arms and light weapons in may 2023 to institutionalize small arms and light weapons control at all levels of the polity and mainstream it’s eradication effort.
Also recovered according to Commander are drugs, motorcycles, vehicles as well as rescue of kidnapped victims.
Major General Abubakar said the combined effect of their efforts also led to the neutralization if several bandits , arrest of suspects as well as capture and prosecution of gun runners as well as those culpable in fanning the ember of crisis I it’s Area of operation.
He said the troops have also maintained an offensive posture, conduct kinetic operations and thriving into the hinterland to protect isolated communities in the conduct of ongoing operations.
While calling on the public to always assist them with information, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar said they will sustain the tempo in curtailing the activities of criminal elements in it’s area of operation and will remain professional, decisive and responsive in the discharge of it’s constitutional mandate.
The National Coordinator, National Center for the Control of Small Arms an Light weapons Major General Mohammed Dikko retired, who was represented by the North Central Coordinator Major General Hamza Bature urge the people of the State to support the efforts of the Operation Safe Haven in their efforts of ensuring a crime free society.
He also called on the media to accurately report activities of the armed forces.
