The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has successfully concluded a statewide assessment of compliance with the Executive Order of 24 October 2024 prohibiting the allocation and encroachment of grazing reserves, cattle routes (Burtali/Labi), and other pastoral resources.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Executive Chairman of the commission,Mr.Saidu Yahya.
Yahya said the exercise was initiated following numerous complaints received by the Commission regarding the unlawful occupation and alteration of pastoral resources across the State.
“To ensure an inclusive and effective assessment, the Commission engaged key stakeholders, including officials of the Ministry of Livestock Development, Local Government Land Officers, District Heads, and representatives of Fulani communities,” he said.
According to him,the assessment covered 36 Local Government Areas and revealed that 371 pastoral resources, comprising grazing reserves, cattle routes, resting points, and watering points, had been encroached upon or altered in violation of the Executive Order.
As part of the intervention, he further disclosed, the commission successfully reclaimed the affected pastoral resources and has commenced collaboration with relevant government agencies to strengthen measures for their protection, preservation, and sustainable use.
The Executive Chairman said the Commission is also taking steps to identify individuals and entities responsible for the encroachments with a view to ensuring appropriate action in accordance with the law and relevant government directives.
He said the exercise represents a significant milestone in safeguarding pastoral resources, promoting peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, and reinforcing compliance with government policies aimed at protecting public assets and supporting livestock development in the state.
