The Plateau North Unity Forum has formally endorsed Professor Danladi Abok Atu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 senatorial election, citing his leadership credentials, commitment to unity, and capacity to deliver development across the zone.
Addressing a press briefing in Jos, on Thursday, the Forum’s spokesman, Timothy Choji Kim, said the decision followed a critical assessment of past representation in Plateau North, which he described as inadequate and responsible for the area’s slow development.
“The zone has been grossly underrepresented and has consequently experienced meagre progress and underdevelopment,” he said, adding that disunity along ethnic, religious, and cultural lines has further hindered growth.
Kim noted that the Forum was established to bridge these divides and promote inclusive leadership, stressing that its guiding principle, “Our Diversity, Our Strength,” reflects a commitment to unity and collective progress.
“We believe our differences should not divide us, but rather serve as a foundation for innovation, resilience, and unity,” he stated.
He emphasized the need for a leader with proven competence, integrity, and the ability to unify the people, describing Professor Danladi Abok Atu as a “tested and trusted personality” with the experience required for effective representation.
“Our endorsement is not borne out of sentiment but grounded in careful evaluation, proven competence, and an unwavering belief in his capacity to deliver purposeful representation,” Kim said.
The Forum highlighted Atu’s academic background in peace education, his experience in local government administration, and his tenure as Secretary to the Plateau State Government as key strengths that position him for legislative responsibilities.
According to Kim, Atu’s grassroots connection and commitment to peacebuilding make him a unifying figure capable of addressing the zone’s longstanding divisions.
“He is a man of the people with widespread acceptance across communities, and his focus on dialogue and reconciliation makes him a bridge-builder,” he added.
The Forum further stated that Atu’s track record in community development, youth empowerment, and integrity distinguishes him as a credible candidate, noting that his leadership qualities align with the aspirations of the people.
Kim also appreciated the efforts of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promoting unity and peaceful coexistence in the state and across the country.
He concluded by calling on stakeholders and residents of Plateau North to support Atu’s candidacy, urging them to “rise above divisions and work together to build a future defined by unity, progress, and shared prosperity.”
