The Plateau State Government has directed the resumption of academic activities in all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state from Monday, September 14, 2026.
In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap Mni, said the directive follows the implementation of precautionary and public health measures to contain suspected cases of diphtheria reported in some parts of the state.
The temporary closure of schools, which took effect on September 7, was introduced as a preventive measure to enable health authorities assess the situation and strengthen surveillance and response mechanisms.
The statement assured parents, teachers, school proprietors and administrators that necessary health measures are being put in place to minimise the risk of transmission as schools reopen.
It expects School authorities to maintain clean and hygienic learning environments, provide basic preventive measures and remain vigilant for symptoms suggestive of diphtheria.
It advised Parents and guardians to also observe good personal hygiene, wash their hands regularly, avoid unnecessary close contact with persons showing suspicious symptoms and seek medical attention promptly when necessary.
Government further cautioned the public against self-medication or concealing suspected cases, stressing that early detection and appropriate treatment are critical to preventing the spread of the disease.
The Statement therefore urged Parents, teachers, students and school authorities to comply with health advisories and support efforts to ensure a safe resumption of academic activities.
