The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Umar Sanda of Lafiya Fulani Settlement via Azare in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, was intercepted on July 31, 2026, at about 12:30 p.m. following credible intelligence.
Police said the suspect was found with the 19 cattle on the outskirts of Dumburi Village in Masaba Ward of Bursari Local Government Area, Yobe State, under circumstances suggesting the livestock may have been stolen.
Acting on the intelligence, operatives attached to the Garin Alkali Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested the suspect while recovering the cattle.
During preliminary interrogation, Umar Sanda claimed the cattle belonged to his brother, who resides at the same address. However, police said he failed to provide satisfactory evidence of ownership or lawful possession of the livestock.
The suspect was subsequently taken into custody, while the recovered cattle were secured pending the outcome of investigations to establish their rightful ownership and determine whether offences related to cattle rustling or other crimes had been committed.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cattle rustling and other criminal activities across the state.
He also urged livestock owners and members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.
