Police nab 22 for alleged armed robbery in Kano

The Police Command in Kano State has arrested 22 armed robbery suspects in Dorayi area of Gwale Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, disclosed this while addressing the residents of Dorayin Karma on Thursday.

Gumel, who held a meeting with the people of Dorayi over issues of Thuggery and Criminal Assault on innocent residents of the area resulting in killing and maiming of the people, said those arrested were tagged armed robbers and not political thugs.

He said, already 30 other criminals were re on the wanted list of the command and advised their parents and relatives to submit them to the police before they were caught.

“We cannot tolerate thugs hiding under the guise of Daba fighting to cause civil unrest in the state, and let me warn that parents who attempt to come forward seeking bail for their arrested children would also be arrested for complicity,” he said.

He said an Anti-robbery squad would be established in Dorayin Karma to ensure the arrest and prosecution of all those involved in criminal activities.

“We will provide the squad with modern working facilities to ensure optimal performance.

“I have already ordered the release of 1000 canisters of Tear Gas to the area and hundred of armed policemen would be deployed to pave way for the arrest of all those behind criminal activities in the area.

Community Leaders of the area called on the police to shoot down anybody who welded arms and ammunition among the citizens, saying that even God had directed that those kinds of person’s punishment is death or life imprisonment.

However, the commissioner insisted that those behind the assault on the community were armed robbers and not common thugs, saying that investigation had revealed that they were armed robbers.

“Already 22 heavily armed persons were arrested and 30 are declared wanted by the police,” he said.

He warned parents against seeking release of their wards, directing that anybody who came asking for bail would be arrested

“We would not tolerate seeing parents supporting their criminal children undertaking crimes against innocent indigents,” Gumel warned.

He said the 30 persons on the police wanted list included Duguja, Baba Habu, Rigiji, Boris, Aminu Yankifi, Yasir, Tsasha, Kana Barrow, Audu Bagwaya, Toti, Musa Kwata, Receiver Gida Gibirawa,Baba and Gundura Na Lutu.
