PRP Holds Convention In Kano,Tasks INEC On New Parties’ Registration
By Abdullahi Yusuf
The People’s Redemption Party(PRP) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to register all associations that have fulfilled the conditions for registration “without further delay.”
The PRP made the demand through Comrade Abdulmajid Yakubu Daudu, National Chairman,PRP-V, during the party’s national convention and primaries held at the Kano NUJ press centre on Saturday.
“We must widen the democratic space not tighten it,” Daudu said.
The party also called on Nigerians to support its campaign for an end to “rising dominant party autocracy,” which it said, is a danger to national survival.
“We continue to call on Nigerians to come forward and support our campaign for an end to state-sponsored mercenary politics – a direct threat to democracy,” it said.
The PRP said it is the oldest living Socialist Party in Nigeria that has survived military proscriptions and civilian regime sabotage, claiming that it is still under attack by “mercenary politicians.”
“Our job is to defend the integrity of the PRP as the authentic party of the Talakawas(masses),and not of the ruling class and their lackeys.
“As we conclude our primaries/convention,we remain convinced that the road out of the existing economic and political crisis is one that puts the core interest of our people at the centre of public policy, instead of the greed of the billionaire class.
“Our elected representatives in this primary/convention will be our foot soldiers in the continued struggle for freedom, social justice and development in Nigeria,” the party added.
