Re-run: Kano Security Committee Tasks Parties On Peaceful, Hitch-free Poll

The Kano State Inter-agency Consultative Committee On Election Security (ICCESS) has urged the concerned political parties to contribute to efforts towards a peaceful and hitch-free conduct of the forthcoming inconclusive election of the Kunchi/Tsanyawa State Assembly election.

The committee also asked the parties to ensure strict compliance with the Peace Accord they signed during their meeting with the committee, ahead of the poll.

The Co-Chair of the committee and Kano State Commissioner of Police,Usaini Mohammed Gumel, said at the meeting held on Tuesday at the Police Officers’ Mess, Bompai, Kano, that by signing the Accord, the polical parties had committed themselves to ensuring a peaceful conduct of the election.

Gumel said the parties had, by signing the document,  also agreed not to indulge in thuggery and other breaches during the poll.

He said the state Police Command would deploy all necessary security measures to ensure the safety of election materials and personnel as well as voters during the exercise.

In his remarks,the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state and Co-Chair of the committee, Amb. Abdu Zango, announced that the election would hold before the commencement of the Ramadan fast.

Zango urged the political parties and the candidates contesting in the election to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the poll.

He said the commission was determined to conduct a hitch-free and peaceful poll and urged the political parties to cooperate with the electoral body to achieve the objective.

Those that signed the Peace Accord during the meeting were Chairmen of the ruling NNPP and the opposition APC in the state.
