Kano, Nigeria – In a proactive move to enhance security during the last ten days of Ramadan, CSP Adamu Bukar Sanda, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rijiyar Lemo Police Station, hosted an Iftar meeting with security stakeholders and community leaders to discuss strategies for ensuring peace and safety during night prayers and other communal activities.
The meeting, attended by religious leaders, local vigilantes, youth groups, and traditional rulers, focused on intelligence sharing and rapid response to potential security threats. During the session, CSP Adamu Bukar Sanda shared his direct contact number, urging residents to report any suspicious activities immediately.
“Security is a shared responsibility. By working together, we can prevent crime before it happens. I encourage everyone to save and share my number widely so that no one hesitates to report any security concerns,” CSP Sanda said.
Quick Response Leads to Multiple Arrests
Just hours after the meeting, the effectiveness of this initiative was put to the test when residents reported a gang of armed criminals in the area. Acting swiftly, CSP Sanda and his team responded, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects and the recovery of weapons.
“We saw some suspicious individuals carrying weapons, and thanks to the police’s new approach, we knew exactly who to call,” said Malam Ibrahim Musa, a community elder who witnessed the incident. “Within minutes, the police arrived, and the situation was brought under control. This kind of collaboration is what we need.”
Another resident, Fatima Abdullahi, commended the police for their commitment to community safety during Ramadan.
“For the first time, I feel a real connection between the police and the people. Knowing that we can reach out directly and get immediate action gives us peace of mind,” she said.
Community Policing in Action
The initiative has been widely praised for its proactive approach to crime prevention, emphasizing the importance of community-police partnership. Security analysts believe such strategies can be replicated across other divisions to improve trust, intelligence gathering, and rapid response.
CSP Sanda reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the community policing model, stressing that collaboration is key to maintaining a peaceful society.
“We will continue engaging with community members, improving our response mechanisms, and ensuring that our neighborhoods remain safe, not just during Ramadan but beyond,” he said.
The police encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, emphasizing that security is a collective effort.
With the success of this initiative, stakeholders are hopeful that similar engagements will become a norm, fostering a safer and more secure environment for all.
