Security forces operating under Operation UDO KA have uncovered a major arms cache allegedly linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Enugu State.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, working in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu State Command, carried out the operation on June 9, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and security across the South-East.
Ayeni said the operation was launched based on credible intelligence obtained from previously arrested suspects linked to IPOB and ESN. Acting on the information, security operatives conducted a precision follow-up raid in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area.
During the operation, troops uncovered a concealed arms depot hidden inside a zinc structure disguised as a piggery. A thorough search of the facility led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.
Items recovered included General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear gas gun with cartridges, AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The army spokesman said all recovered weapons, ammunition and arrested suspects had been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
He noted that the successful operation highlighted the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation among security agencies and demonstrated the commitment of Operation UDO KA to dismantling criminal and terrorist networks threatening peace and stability in the South-East.
Ayeni reaffirmed the resolve of security forces to protect lives, safeguard national sovereignty and sustain ongoing offensive operations against violent groups in the region.
He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid efforts to maintain lasting peace and security across the South-East.
