Friends of Kano, a non-governmental organisation, has called on elders, religious leaders, politicians and other stakeholders to intervene in the lingering Kano Emirate chieftaincy dispute and find a lasting solution.
The organisation’s Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Isah, expressed concern that the prolonged dispute was threatening the peace and unity of Kano State.
He warned that the continued contest over the emirship could undermine the state’s economic development and the peaceful coexistence for which Kano is known.
Isah also noted that the dispute was affecting economic activities, raising concerns among business owners, some of whom were reportedly considering relocating over fears about the state’s stability.
He urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf-led Kano State Government to constitute a high-powered committee to address the dispute and work towards a lasting resolution.
The organisation called on all parties involved in the dispute to prioritise peace, unity and the collective interest of Kano State above personal and political considerations.
