USAID Spends $3.5 Million on WISE in Kano, Jigawa

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) said the amount of $3.5 million was spent under Water Improvement and Sanitation Enhancement (WISE) Activities as an intervention in Kano and Jigawa states.

This was disclosed by the Chief of Party Water Improvement and Sanitation Enhancement (WISE), Mr. Simeon Nyiakaa while delivering his speech during the handover of the projects to the benefiting Communities, held at Manpower Development Institute Dutse.

He explained that the three-year project commenced on August 1 2021 to reduce the occurrence and impact of waterborne diseases among the targeted population, especially children, women and the elderly in underserved and rural communities in Kano and Jigawa state.

According to him, the projects targeted 66,000 residents to have access to basic water and 123,000 persons to basic sanitation with 55 improved water supply systems and 50 improved sanitation facilities in public institutions including schools and primary healthcare centres.

“Today I’m happy to announce some of WISE projects’ achievements as the construction and rehabilitation of powered boreholes and hand pumps at 98 facilities across the two states of Kano and Jigawa” he said.

While delivering his remarks, the Jigawa state governor Malam Umar Namadi who was represented by the commissioner of Water Resources, Ibrahim Garba Hannun Giwa commended WISE projects and urged other partners to emulate them.
