We are strengthening our health system to combat HIV/AIDS – Kano govt

The Kano State Government has announced major progress in its fight against HIV/AIDS, highlighting the steps it has taken to strengthen the state’s health system.

The announcement coincided with the 2025 World AIDS Day commemoration.

In a statement released on Monday, the government said it remains committed to expanding access to quality healthcare and improving services for people living with HIV.

“We are strengthening our health system to combat HIV/AIDS and ensure that all residents have access to quality care,” the statement read.

The government revealed that the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA) now has 24-hour solar-powered electricity, operational vehicles, and modern data management tools to improve service delivery and monitoring across the state.

“We have successfully rolled out the Triple Elimination Programme, targeting HIV, Hepatitis, and Syphilis, across 43 health facilities in the state,” the government said.

“In addition, we have completed a modern Paediatric TB/HIV Clinic at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, fully funded by the state, to provide better care for our vulnerable children.”

On funding, the statement disclosed that about ₦2 billion, representing 3 to 4 percent of the 2025 health budget, was allocated to HIV-related activities.

An additional ₦385 million was approved for rapid test kits, while over ₦120 million went into key programs, including the World AIDS Day commemoration and other intervention activities.

The government reiterated its resolve to continue prioritizing public health and ensuring that progress made in combating HIV/AIDS is sustained and expanded.
