A civic technology organisation, YandyTech, has launched an electoral information platform, “Muryarmu” (Our Voices), aimed at improving citizens’ access to verified electoral information ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The platform was unveiled on Thursday in Kaduna as part of efforts to strengthen democratic participation and address voter apathy, especially among young people and first-time voters.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Technology Officer of YandyTech, Musa Magaga, said the initiative was designed to provide citizens with easy access to reliable election-related information to enable them make informed decisions during elections.
According to him, lack of access to credible information remains one of the major factors contributing to voter apathy in many communities across the country.
“We believe we have a responsibility to contribute solutions that will encourage citizens to participate actively in the democratic process,” he said.
Magaga explained that one of the major features of the platform is a polling unit locator designed to help users easily identify the exact locations of their polling units.
He added that the platform also integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide information on election dates, candidate profiles and other electoral processes through a conversational format.
“Instead of searching through several websites, citizens can interact directly with the platform and access information quickly and conveniently,” he said.
The YandyTech official acknowledged the challenge of internet access in rural communities, noting that the organisation was already developing additional features, including a WhatsApp chatbot and offline messaging services to improve accessibility.
He described the initiative as part of broader efforts to strengthen civic participation and improve electoral awareness among Nigerians.
Also speaking, the Gender and Social Protection Officer of YandyTech, Hope Garba, said the platform was designed to remove barriers that discourage citizens from participating in elections.
She noted that access to accurate information would empower citizens to make informed decisions and exercise their democratic rights effectively.
Garba added that transparency, accountability and inclusiveness remain critical towards rebuilding public trust in the electoral process and reducing voter apathy.
