The APC National Unity Support Group has expressed deep concern over reports of Senator Abdul’aziz Yari’s alleged closed-door meeting with key opposition figures in Nigeria, particularly former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and some members of his ADC.
The group in a statement on Wednesday by its
Zonal Coordinator (Convener), Dr. Haruna Sadauki, described the development as “troubling”.
The group cautioned the Zamfara lawmaker, along with other party faithful, to avoid any form of secret engagements that could undermine the unity, cohesion, and progress of the party.
The reported meeting appeared to be a calculated attempt to distract from the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at fostering sustainable development and national unity, the group posited.
They further stated that such actions, if true, constitute a breach of the trust reposed in Senator Yari by the President and could prove politically damaging to his future.
While acknowledging Yari’s status as a prominent political figure and founding member, the group noted that the alleged engagement has raised questions about his commitment, loyalty, and support for the party’s collective success.
The statement emphasized that greater caution is required when interacting with opposition figures, particularly those perceived as consistently critical of the current administration and its policies.
The group also suggested that, regardless of the motivations behind the reported meeting, any association with opposition elements at this critical time could pose more political risks than benefits, especially as the 2027 general elections approach.
Consequently, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari was urged to set aside personal ambition and remain focused on party responsibilities, demonstrating renewed commitment to the success of the administration.
The group, however, stressed that the growing goodwill enjoyed by the President across the country should not be jeopardised by actions that may appear self-serving or capable of weakening the party’s unity.
