The Yobe State Government has constituted a technical committee to study and recommend the establishment of Local Development Area Councils (LDCAs) as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots governance and bring government closer to the people.
The committee, approved by Governor Mai Mala Buni, is chaired by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune).
This was contained in a statement issued by the Deputy Governor’s Press Secretary, Hussaini Mai Suleh.
According to the statement, the initiative is aimed at enhancing development, expanding citizens’ participation in governance, and responding to the aspirations of the people.
Other members of the committee are the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly; the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Justice, and Transport and Energy; the Permanent Secretary (Political); the Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters; the Director-General of the Yobe Geographic Information Service (YOGIS); the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Yobe State chapter; the Chairman of the Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers; and Barrister Bakura Ba’aba.
The Acting Secretary to the State Government will serve as the committee’s secretary.
The committee has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive study and providing objective recommendations on the establishment of Local Development Area Councils in the state.
It is also expected to examine the legal, administrative, institutional, financial, and developmental implications of the proposal, drawing on national best practices and relevant constitutional provisions.
The government said the committee’s recommendations would provide an evidence-based framework to guide policy decisions on the proposed councils.
According to the statement, the constitution of the committee underscores the Yobe State Government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance through inclusive consultation, technical analysis, and adherence to due process in public policy formulation.
