The Yobe State Primary Healthcare Board has officially flagged off the 2026 vaccination exercise for intending Hajj pilgrims, reaffirming the state’s commitment to safeguarding the health of its citizens ahead of the annual pilgrimage.
According to the Information and Public Relations Officer of the Board, Adamu Saidu Abba, the event was held on Monday, 27th April 2026, at the Pilgrims Commission Conference Hall in Damaturu, and drew key stakeholders from the health sector, government agencies, and development partners.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Babagana Kundi Machina, alongside the Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Pilgrims Commission, Alhaji Mai Aliyu Usman Biriri, formally declared the exercise open.
Represented by the Deputy Director of Immunization and Disease Control, Alhaji Muhammad Danjuma, the Executive Secretary highlighted the importance of vaccination in preventing the spread of communicable diseases during Hajj. He noted that the exercise aligns with global health guidelines for mass gatherings and is essential for protecting pilgrims throughout their spiritual journey.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of the Pilgrims Commission urged all intending pilgrims to fully comply with vaccination requirements, stressing that health preparedness is a critical component of a successful Hajj.
A major highlight of the event was the symbolic administration of the vaccine, as Dr. Machina vaccinated the Chairman, Alhaji Mai Aliyu Usman Biriri, demonstrating leadership commitment and boosting public confidence in the exercise.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of development partners, Baba Mai Mofiyo of UNICEF commended the Yobe State Government for its proactive efforts in strengthening immunization services and ensuring the safety of pilgrims.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Permanent Member I of the Commission, Hon. Adam Arjo Kayeri, who expressed appreciation to all stakeholders and partners for their collaboration and support toward the success of the exercise.
