Youths, Women Groups Seek Inclusion, Interim ADC Leadership

From Umar Dankano, Yola

A coalition of youth and women support groups within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the party’s National Working Committee to dissolve the Adamawa State executive committee and constitute an interim leadership.

Rising from a crucial meeting on the state of the party over the weekend, the coalition expressed concern over the lingering leadership crisis affecting the ADC in several states, including Adamawa. It urged the national and zonal leadership to intervene by forming an interim committee to restore order.

Chairman of the coalition, Comrade Muhammad Adamu, stated during a press conference in Yola that dissolving the current leadership would be a step toward addressing internal conflicts.

Reading the communiqué, Adamu said the coalition resolved to ensure youths and women are fully included in the leadership and decision-making structures of the ADC, emphasizing that their participation should be treated as a right rather than a privilege.

He noted that youths constitute about 70% of Nigeria’s population while women make up 62%, making both demographics the backbone of the country’s political and social strength.

“The ADC should harness the potential of young people and women by reserving at least 50% of elective positions for them,” Adamu stated, adding that the youth leader position should be occupied by individuals aged 18 to 39 in line with Nigeria’s demographic realities.

He further condemned the imposition of non-youths in positions meant for young people and advocated for micro-zoning of party offices.

The coalition also recommended Hon. Abdurrasheed Adamu Suleiman Khady for consideration as the state youth leader, should the position be zoned to Adamawa Central.

Adamu reaffirmed the coalition’s loyalty to the ADC and its readiness to work with the party’s leadership to strengthen its role as a leading opposition force in Nigeria.

“Our meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to promote inclusivity and democratic accountability within the ADC for the betterment of the country,” he added.
