Zakah Foundation Distributes Sallah Clothes, Capital in Gombe

From Rabilu Abubakar Gombe

The Zakah & Waqf Foundation in Gombe has once again brought joy to the less privileged by distributing Sallah clothes to 100 orphans and vulnerable individuals. This initiative is part of the foundation’s ongoing efforts to support those in need and promote community empowerment.

Speaking at the distribution event, the Foundation’s Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido, explained that the organization traditionally gathers and distributes used clothes donated by wealthy individuals after cleaning and repackaging them. However, this year, the foundation opted to purchase new clothes directly from young women it had trained in skills such as sewing, bead-making, and shoemaking.

“This new approach not only benefits the recipients but also empowers the young women by supporting their entrepreneurial ventures,” Lamido said.

He encouraged affluent individuals to contribute their zakat to the foundation, assuring them that their donations would be transparently and effectively distributed to those in genuine need.

Lamido further emphasized that many donors have expressed satisfaction with the foundation’s operations and impact.

In addition to the clothing distribution, the foundation provided start-up capital of ₦15,000 each to 75 young entrepreneurs engaged in small-scale businesses.

The beneficiaries also received training on financial management, including strategies to save one-third of their profits in dedicated accounts over the course of a year, helping them strengthen and sustain their businesses.

Saleh Danburan, Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), commended the foundation for its impactful programs and urged it to remain committed to upholding Islamic principles.

Similarly, Islamic scholar Malam Bello Doma praised the foundation’s efforts and proposed the establishment of a microfinance bank to offer interest-free loans.

He noted that such a bank would provide much-needed financial support to vulnerable individuals without subjecting them to humiliation or rejection.
