The Northern Elders Progressive Group has commended the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for his leadership, support and commitment to ensuring a peaceful, free and fair conduct of the party’s rerun primary election for the Zamfara North Senatorial District.
The group described the outcome of the exercise, which produced Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura as the APC candidate, as a testament to the national chairman’s commitment to internal democracy, fairness and responsible leadership.
In a statement, the North-West Executive Secretary of the group, Hon. Abbas Ahmed Sarki, said Yilwatda had demonstrated exemplary leadership by allowing the committee mandated to conduct the primary to operate independently without interference from him or members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Sarki said “the national chairman’s maturity, humility and neutrality throughout the process had contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the exercise.
“Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has demonstrated that true leadership is about creating an enabling environment for a transparent and credible process.
“His decision to allow the electoral committee to discharge its responsibilities without interference is an excellent example of responsible party leadership,” he said.
He added that the chairman’s commitment to ensuring a fair process until its conclusion had yielded a positive outcome, describing the approach as a demonstration of confidence in the party’s democratic structures.
According to him, reports received by the group’s monitoring team indicated that the exercise was conducted fairly, with the committee enjoying the independence required to deliver a credible process, despite pockets of resistance and alleged propaganda by some individuals opposed to the peaceful conduct of the primary.
The group also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and support for the APC in the North-West, particularly in the areas of security, economic growth and infrastructure development.
It urged political stakeholders in Zamfara State to embrace unity, cohesion and mutual understanding, stressing that internal harmony would be crucial to strengthening the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While congratulating Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura on his emergence as the party’s candidate for Zamfara North Senatorial District, the group called on other aspirants to set aside their differences and rally behind him.
“Sollective support for the party’s candidate would be essential to securing victory for the APC in the forthcoming general elections,” he noted.
