CITAD Trains BUK Lecturers on Fintech, Blockchain
The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, Bayero University Kano (BUK), has conducted a three-day training for university lecturers on Financial Technology (Fintech) and Blockchain.
PRIME TIME NEWS gathered that the programme was designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge of emerging digital financial systems and support the integration of fintech and blockchain concepts into academic curricula.
Speaking during the training, Mr. Isa Garba, Senior Programme Officer at CITAD, said the initiative was aimed at bridging the gap between academic knowledge and market demands.
“This programme promotes a partnership between academia and the wider community. While the academic world provides theories and knowledge, the market determines the skills in demand,” he said.
Garba noted that fintech and blockchain are transforming financial systems globally, stressing the need for continuous learning in an ever-evolving IT-driven world.
He explained that lecturers were deliberately targeted for the training because of their key role in transmitting knowledge to students and the broader community.
“If you share knowledge with lecturers, you are indirectly sharing it with their students and the larger society. That’s why this is a valuable partnership,” he added.
Prof. Kabiru Tahir-Hamid of BUK’s Department of Accounting, who spoke on behalf of the participants, described the workshop as timely and impactful.
“The training is important, especially for its practical relevance in shaping our academic work and personal development,” he said.
Another participant, Dr. Aisha Aminu, also lauded the programme, saying:
“Fintech and blockchain are new concepts to many of us. Although we teach e-business and e-commerce, this workshop broke down complex technical terms and brought them to our level. It’s a wonderful experience and we gained a lot.”
Garba reaffirmed CITAD’s commitment to promoting IT knowledge through strategic partnerships and capacity-building programmes for educators and communities.
