Parents urged to make their children available for polio immunization

From Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna

Parents and caregivers in Kaduna State have been urged to make their children less than five years of age available for immunization during the next round of the polio immunization campaign.

The campaign will take place from September 30 to October 3, 2023, and vaccinators will be visiting homes, streets, worship centers, markets, and motor parks.

In a joint statement issued by the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Development Board and the Journalists Initiative on Immunization Against Polio (JAP), the government and stakeholders advised parents to ensure that their children are vaccinated.

“Immunization is the best way to protect children from polio, a disabling and deadly disease,” the statement said.

The statement explained that all adequate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the exercise by the State Government, Development partners and key stakeholders.

The statement also commended traditional and religious leaders for their support of the polio eradication initiative and appealed to ad-hoc staff engaged for the conduct of the campaign to ensure that all eligible children are reached.
