Senate Fumes as NNPCL Boss Ojulari Snubs Summons Over Missing N210 Trillion

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has once again defied the Nigerian Senate Committee on Public Accounts by failing to appear before it, despite a 10-day ultimatum to explain unaccounted funds amounting to a staggering N210 trillion.

At Thursday’s hearing, Ojulari sent representatives on his behalf, but the committee, led by Senator Aliyu Wadada, refused to entertain them, insisting that only the NNPCL helmsman could address the 11 critical financial queries flagged in the company’s audited accounts from 2017 to 2023.

Senator Wadada condemned Ojulari’s repeated absence, describing it as a direct affront to the constitutional authority of the National Assembly and a clear breach of its oversight mandate.

“The Senate will not tolerate this level of disregard,” Wadada warned, vowing that a new date would be set for Ojulari to appear in person or face stiffer measures.

Recall that the Senate had earlier issued an ultimatum demanding the NNPCL leadership account for the massive funds in question. Meanwhile, NNPCL’s Chief Financial Officer, Dapo Segun, previously attributed their initial absence to a management retreat.

As tensions escalate, all eyes are now on the Senate’s next move—and whether Ojulari will finally break his silence before lawmakers.
