Zamfara Lawmaker decries unproductive population as genesis of insecurity
From Ibrahim Kaulahi, Gusau
A member house of representatives representing Birnin Magaji/Kaura Namoda federal constituency Zamfara north, hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, has described the teeming unproductive population as the root cause of the lingering security challenges that bedeviled Zamfara State and other parts of the country.
Honorable Jaji made the declaration during a public lecture and interractive session organized by the Zamfara State Students Association (ZAMSSA) Ahmadu Bello University chapter on Saturday as Guest Speaker.
Hon. Jaji stressed the need for the governments at all levels to pay more attention on policies promoting education with a view to hatch productive generations, contrary to which the whole region and the entire country could be unregrettably destroyed by the teeming illetrate timed bomb youths.
He lamented total ignorance of both the governments on the reality of the causes of security challenges been faced by legitimate communities until it’s sizes and speed had already became formidable to handle.
“Although, the local government autonomy would no doubt help to curtail the threatening rate of high profile crimes like banditry, kidnapping and of course, the cattle rustling and farmers/herders clashes, and communal clashes as well.
The Lawmaker further has however, commended the development of local government autonomy for their being closest tier of government to the people as it holds the key to unlocking grassroots development, economic growth, and improved service delivery.
“In a nutshell, local government autonomy refers to the freedom of local governments to manage their affairs, make decisions, and allocate resources without undue interference from higher tiers of governments. It is about empowering local communities to take ownership of their development, harness local resources, and address unique local needs.
“As we explore the importance of local government autonomy, we will delve into its benefits, challenges, and successes. We will examine how autonomy can unlock economic growth and development, improve service delivery and address local security and conflict resolution, Jaji has explained.”
